Numero.02 draws inspiration from the historic Gothic №2 typeface by the Keystone Type Foundry (1888-1917). This type family pays homage to the origins of the "Gothic" appellation, a term historically used in the 19th century to describe sans serif typefaces. In contrast to the ornate and classical serifed typefaces of the time, these "Gothic" fonts were seen as bold, utilitarian, and modern—a departure from the past. The term came to represent a certain straightforward, no-nonsense aesthetic that was both functional and striking. Numero.02 continues this legacy, integrating notable design elements from the original Gothic №2 while infusing them with contemporary flair. The influences of Gothic №2 are evident in the leg of the "R," the terminals of the "a" and "t," and the robust appearance of the lowercase letters, which feature very tight counterforms. However, it stands out in the radical design of letters like "W," "N," and "M." The typeface also offers flexibility through OpenType functionalities, allowing users to customize certain design features. The more humanist forms of "a" and "g" can be alternated for a modern look, while two sets of punctuation and dot styles for "i" and "j"—square and round—provide additional stylistic options. With styles ranging from Light to Bold, Numero.02 is optimized for a wide range of applications. In contrast, the extreme weights, Poster and Hairline, are specifically designed for titling purposes, with the Poster style adopting a more vernacular design that sets it apart from the rest of the family.
